Dia a Dia (Day by Day)
Four years ago I initiated a project to create 30 paintings in one month, using other peoples landscape photography as a creative stimulus. I shared each image daily on social media, which enabled me to call it 'finished'. I named the project '30 Days, 30 Landscapes', and its influenced was profoundly rooted on my own personal journey, and recent move to Portugal.
In the first year of this project, I easily assimilated the connection created between the author of photography and my work as an artist, alongside that of the viewer. This connection was crucial to the deepening of the work, and extended on to the next years project, maintaining painting as the chosen medium, but using it with greater experimental application. This series was presented in an individual exhibition in UK.
The third year, with selected work presented in this exhibition, marked a distinct change in my artistic direction, as I made the shift toward collage as my medium. This technique allowed me to explore a greater abstraction of the content, transporting the work into a metaphorical field that is no longer restricted to the authorship of the photograph and my artistic experience alone, instead expanding into a shared universe of experiences of travel in humanity.
The title, Day by Day, reflects the small but important steps I have taken in my daily practice and mark progress that have allowed for a deeper reflection and awareness of my creative path.
